Time and Place

Matches will be held from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. on June 3-4, 2017, at the George Washington University Tennis Center at 2100 Foxhall Road, NW, Washington, DC 20007.

Tournament Format

The tournament will begin with round-robin group play in the five divisions, Open, A, B, C, and D, feeding into five elimination brackets to determine this year’s champions.  For round-robin phase, some players will be seeded and all drawn into groups, with each player playing three matches against players in their group.   Players with the most winning record in their group will advance to elimination brackets, either as quarterfinals (only if large draw), semifinals (more likely), or straight to a final (for small draw).  Seeds in each division will be determined by our tournament committee, with consideration of both GLTA ranking points and CTA CAPERS ratings. (Actual number of groups and seeds in each division will follow from tournament registration results).

Round robin phase matches will be best-of-three tiebreak sets with no-ad scoring and a first-to-10-points match tiebreaker in lieu of a third set. Group winners will advance to the elimination bracket, where matches will be full best-of-three tiebreak sets, normal scoring.

Timely play during all matches will be very important and will be monitored. Warm-ups will be no more than 7 minutes. No more than 20 seconds in between points. Changeovers will be no more than 90 seconds, two-minutes in between sets. No break after the first game of a set. We will have many matches to get through!

Tournament Ratings

GLTA Rating: If a player has a GLTA rating, then that player cannot play below their GLTA rating.

CAPERS Rating: If a player doesn’t have a GLTA rating, then that player must follow the below guidelines using their CAPERS rating.

- Players with a CAPERS rating of 4.0 - 4.49 must play A or higher

- Players with a CAPERS rating of 3.5 - 3.99 must play B or higher

- Players with a CAPERS rating of 3.0 - 3.49 must play C or higher

NOTE: Previous winner: If a player has won the division in the year prior (CSC2016), that player must play up a division level

▪ Winners from previous year will be available to co-directors in advance of registration to insure they are registered correctly

Participants will register for the tournament based on the ratings guidelines. Players can play up a division but not down. Any questionable registrations shall be approached on case-by-case basis, as policy does allow for appeals to tournament directors to register in a draw that may not be consistent with current policy.

Determining Group Winners

Group winners advancing to elimination brackets will be determined in the following order:

1.     Most match wins.

2.     Head-to-head results, if (only) two players have the same number of group match wins.

3.     Sets won and lost, if more than two players have the same number of match wins or there is no head-to-head result between two players. Match tiebreakers count as sets.

4.     Games won and lost. Match tiebreakers count as one game.

5.     Sets won and lost among players involved in the tie.

6.     Games won and lost among players involved in the tie.

7.     Coin flip.

Note, some elimination brackets may need completion from best 2nd place finishes in group play (same ranking criteria, 1-7, will be applied).
